Hunting Down a New Honda S2000

With a heavy heart I bade farewell to my elderly car after its final, unsuccessful MOT. Having had years of unbeatable service from the little motor, it was time to accept that there was only so much money I could keep spending in order to keep it running.

The car in question was a very ancient Honda Accord automatic, as old as the hills and one of the most dependable vehicles that I've ever driven. I knew that the next car I bought would be a Honda model, because despite having owned offerings from plenty of other manufacturers, no vehicle had ever come close to the quality and reliability of the Accord.

Living in Strathblane means that I demand a lot from any car that finds itself on my driveway, especially in the warmer weather when there's nothing more satisfying than taking a spin in the countryside. Despite being on its way to retirement the Accord imbued every journey with a sense of satisfaction, largely owing to its impeccable handling and punchy performance.

When it came to getting my hands on a new Honda, Glasgow was my destination. I had browsed online and found an absolutely excellent price on a new S2000, and who was I to refuse a convertible car when it could be mine for a compellingly low cost? But I have to confess, the price wasn't the only thing that attracted me. I went to bed that night dreaming of all the country roads that I would conquer with the roof down and the breeze in my hair, and come morning I was like a child on Christmas Day!

A friend had very kindly offered to give me a lift to the Glasgow Honda dealership in exchange for being the first to ride in the S2000, and as that was a very fair trade I found myself in the showroom with bright eyes and bushy tail, ready to get my eager little paws on the S2000.

Needless to say I am delighted with my new nippy little motor, and if anyone is looking for a Honda car that combines a sense of freedom with the legendary Honda quality, I fully recommend the S2000.

The New Audi S5 in Detail

At the recent 77e Salon International de l'Auto Geneve (77th annual Geneva International Motor Show) early this March, Volkswagen Group's Audi division unveiled their latest luxury high-performance sports coupe in front of the European crowd who participated in the show. The Audi S5 took the center stage in the Audi stand along with the Audi A5 coupe.

As for a sports coupe, the Audi S5 features a sporty and elegant exterior and interior design along with clear functionality. Outside the car, you can find the radiator grille painted in platinum grey and fitted with vertical chrome inlays. The front and rear bumpers are more distinctive along with the air inlet grilles. Other exterior parts found on the Audi S5 include aluminium-look exterior mirror housings, colour-keyed door sill trim, dual-branch exhaust system with four oval tailpipes, xenon plus headlights with daytime running lights featuring LED light sand, 18-inch wheels with 245/40 R 18 performance tires, and the pronounced rear spoiler providing aerodynamic down force for better road-to-vehicle traction.

In addition to sporty exterior parts, Audi S5 also comes with a host of elegant and sporty interior amenities. Customers can choose between the available interior trims including carbon, aluminium, stainless steel or wood. Customers can also feel the dynamic environment on the interior with the car's sports seats, sports steering wheel, instruments with grey dials, and aluminium door sill plates. Just like the VW cargo liner, the Audi S5 also comes with a functional luggage compartment.

Audi tuned up the S5 and installed some of the highest quality chassis parts and powertrain systems. The sports coupe comes with a specially tuned sports suspension and high-performance brakes to provide improved vehicle handling and driving dynamics. The special high-performance brakes with their black painted brake calipers ensure precise deceleration. For challenging drivers who have starving needs for speed, they can fully deactivate the Audi S5's electronic stabilisation program (ESP) and explore the sports coupe's full driving potential.

In terms of performance of a sports coupe, the Audi S5 is equipped with a monstrous V8 FSI 8-cylinder engine with an impressive and powerful output delivering 354 hp (260 kW) and produces 295 lb.-ft. (400 Nm) amount of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. With this V8 FSI engine, the Audi S5 is capable of accelerating from zero to 62 mph in a mere 5.1 seconds. Audi has also included some of the high-end powertrain technology for the V8 engine to boost the Audi S5's performance. The engine comes with a standard FSI direct injection technology with high compression and optimum fuel mixture formation.

The torque distribution is perfectly balanced, 40 percent on the front axle and 60 percent torque out put carried to the vehicle's rear axle. To complete the Audi S5's powertrain system, a six-speed manual gearbox is mated to the engine to power the four wheel drive (4WD) configuration.

Watch out for the Audi S5 when it rolls out in dealerships starting in June 2007, along with the Audi A5 luxury coupe.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro - She's Back

Ever since General Motors ended production of its Camaro coupe back in 2002, enthusiasts have been wanting for it to return, something GM made good on in 2007 when they announced that the car, indeed, would be put back into production. All new for 2010, the latest edition of the Chevrolet Camaro is back and better than before.

I'm still a few weeks away from my first test drive, so my report is based on seeing the car at a pair of auto shows in Detroit and Los Angeles, talking with Chevrolet officials who had a hand in the design of the car, and reviewing company documentation. The newest model is sold out for the first four to six months of production, but a test vehicle will be at my local dealer within the next few weeks. I've already scheduled my first drive.

Pricing for the base V6-powered Camaro LS will be $22,995 while the V8-powered Camaro SS will retail for $30,995. In October 2008, General Motors began taking orders for the car, a full five months before production models rolled off of a Brampton, Ontario assembly line.

The Camaro is built on GM's global rear wheel drive architecture and each engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission to ensure maximum fuel efficiency. Indeed, the latest iteration of the Camaro is about 25% more efficient than the car last produced in 2002, with no sacrifice to power. Credit modern technology with helping the coupe maximize horsepower while eating up less gas and emitting fewer pollutants.

Key features of the car includes four-wheel disc brakes systems across the entire model line; six standard air bags, Bluetooth phone connectivity, remote vehicle starting system, four-wheel independent suspension, OnStar, XM Satellite Radio and more. Many of the features found on the 2010 didn't even exist in 2002, so great is the difference between the two models.

Both the LS and LT models are powered by a 3.6L engine with variable timing included in an effort to optimize fuel performance and fuel economy. Still, this engine will achieve 300 horsepower and 273 lb.-feet of torque and get 27 mpg on the highway.

A high performance Camaro SS with a monstrous 6.2L V8 is also available, yielding 422 horsepower and 408 lb.-feet of torque. That engine is based on the LS3, a powerplant that can be found under the hood of a Corvette.

So if you're looking for the right balance of performance and fuel economy, you'll want to keep the Chevrolet Camaro in mind, a car that competes with the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger in the important pony (muscle) car segment.

GM Bankruptcy - What About the 2010 Camaro SS, the Volt, and the 2010 Corvette

Can General Motors recover from bankruptcy? Will anybody buy a General Motors car from a bankrupt auto maker? Will anyone want a franchised dealership if the company is in bankruptcy? Will the franchised dealerships of General Motors claim that General Motors is not giving them the services they promised to the franchise agreement and now that they are insolvent they can't? Therefore, the franchisees should have the money back for their franchise fees, royalties and be free to break the franchise agreement.

When General Motors files for bankruptcy protection this means that many other vendors which they have not paid for six months in some cases may not get paid for well over a year or more and they may not even get the full amount. This means all the service companies and the companies that make the components for the cars are out serious dollars and they will have to lay off people, many already have.

These vendors may not be able to recover either and many more dealerships will go at a business. It gets worse because many cities rely on the sales of cars to help generate sales tax revenue for city services. Worse, consumers may not come back to General Motors for a long time, instead they might buy their competitors vehicles, perhaps automobiles made by Ford, Toyota or Honda?

Still one has to wonder, any guy in the world would love to have a 2010 Camaro SS, which will have a 6.2 liter V-8, capable of 4.6 seconds to 60 miles per hour acceleration; all for $30,000. Question is, can GM survive that long? Think on this.
